Our group's show is being held on Friday 18 and Saturday 19th November in Hinckley Methodist Church and Halls.

Hinckley Methodist Church and Halls, Albert Road Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 1PL

We have use of the church’s small car park, there are a couple of pay and display car parks, otherwise there is ample street parking nearby.

Also nearby are B&Q and Aldi stores, both with free car parks but time restrictions.

The railway station is probably under 15 minutes away by foot.

Friday evening is raising funds for BBC Children in Need, and Saturday proceeds will be split between the church and our group.

Friday opening is 16:00 to 20:00, and Saturday is 10:00 to 16:00, admission is £3

Both days we will have refreshments. At the time of writing there should be 12 layouts and 4 traders across the ground and first floor, a lift is available. However, there are 4 steps up to the first floor stage where a G gauge layout will be. An ante room also has 1 step

Hinckley is near the middle of the country, with the M1, M6 and M69 passing nearby. A bit further away is the M42. If you are undertaking a long road journey, plan to have a rest break at our show!

May be able to manage that, there is a show at Spalding this weekend and a bus do at Aldenham. Both were on my radar but train strikes taken them off it. Never use the car unless I am forced to.

Loft will be getting some work done on it. I am trying to sort the loft space above my kitchen which is a complete mess after years of electricians, plumbing and other extension work prior to me buying the house works left loft insulation very untidy and ineffective plus wires all over the place. Need to tidy up and put a crawlway in. Fortunately found some nice flooring chipboard in a skip just the right width for the job. Some 3 inches raised above exisiting joists will give a good thickness of insulation. Rotten job though.

JohnD...if you do come, please make yourself known...there are quite a few GSC'ers in 3CAG.
Including the chap on the left ( not me! )

As mentioned, the Friday evening is raising funds for BBC Children in Need. A few years ago we did this outside at a members garden railway, it was well below freezing, and after 4 hours of operating, everyone was very cold. Luckily it was dry.

So we now raise funds indoors!

Here, Pudsey is trying to run trains on our group’s layout Dow Bridge in 2018. Will he be there in 2022? I have spoken to one of Pudsey’s handlers, and it is looking quite possible for the Friday in 2022

Our layout must have only just been recently operational, as the track isn't ballasted.

3cag_Spring_18_pudsey.jpg

Dow Bridge is a transportable layout some 24 x 14 ft which will be erected on the stage. Two continuous tracks, and an inner branch line.

The groups ‘under construction’ mini portable layout will also be on show, in 64.56% complete mode! Much still needs to be done, but it’s hoped that with some last minute efforts, it won’t look too bad! These two layouts are stored at the church halls…so they will definitely be there!

More details later

Further update.....the show starts a week tomorrow!

Although our interests are predominately G scale, some members also dabble in other gauges. Just for Saturday, there will be a T gauge layout. If you havn’t seen T, it is rather small, with a track gauge of Three millimeters. Another member has an OO layout running post war/pre modernisation Southern and Great Western. ‘Younger’ visitors will enjoy the large Playmobil layout showing much of their older track powered range. ‘Older’ visitors will remember Hornby Dublo. Always noisy, a Lionel tinplate 3 rail O gauge layout will be buzzing and rattling away.

Turning back to G gauge, there will be a terminus to fiddle yard layout ‘Lewiston’ which has been at the Warwick large scale show, also at Loughboro’ Great Central Railway, and possibly the layout travelling furthest, all the way from Essex, will be ‘Flying15’ of this forum’s excellent layout featuring very clever conversions of RTR G locos into convincing representations of British ( also Cuban and elsewhere ) locomotives. This layout is normally seen in the southern part of the UK, this is a rare chance to see it further north!

Not yet mentioned is a large O gauge finescale layout, unfortunately, exact details are not to hand. Plus a Christmas themed OO layout, again, more details are unknown. Finally, there will be an American HO layout, with slot cars pausing at a grade ( level ) crossing to let the train run past. Also, the road vehicles may be driven by visitors.

For those coming by train, there may still be a rail replacement bus service between Peterboro and Leicester, caused by a severe bridge bash. So severe that one of the running lines is having to have a complete new deck structure. Apparently, freight is using the one remaining line with bi directional running….see the BBC report.

Bridge bash report

We do have traders.... John Sutton books and models will have a nice selection of goodies, plus two further dealers with mainly smaller scales, N and OO. We are waiting to confirm the fourth trader, a G scale specialist, but we have one in reserve eager to fill the gap. Also, one of our group members who was going to bring a layout is now swamped with work and may not be able to attend.

After Brixhams kind words, I thought I’d post a few images of locos on Crib Lane, the British incarnation of my layout which, as was said, has generally only been seen in the south. I havn’t mentioned traders yet…we should have four...two specialising in garden railways, the third has mainly OO, and the fourth, mainly a mix of N and OO.

For G gaugers ( also 16mm )...and a good selection of narrow gauge reading material, John Sutton will be in the church foyer right by the entrance, and Amazing Little Trains will be in one of the exhibition areas.

Members of a local model railway club have a thriving second hand stall, and Checkrail have a mix of mainly old and recent N and OO.

All exhibits and traders liable to change at short notice, since starting this thread at least 1 layout has withdrawn, and been replaced by another!

I see that the Great Central railway are having their last gala of the year on Saturday and Sunday...at least 5 steam locos and one diesel. Freight trains too including the 'Windcutter'. Come and see us on Saturday morning, then pop over to the GCR in the afternoon ( trains running until well after dark! ). Don't come to visit us on Sunday...as our show is open on Friday 16:00 - 20:00, and Saturday 10:00 to 16:00 )

Today was spent making some last hour preparations.. ( last minute will be on Friday morning! )
Two layouts have already arrived!!
The first is a British OO layout, with a really high standard of wiring! And the layout is even better...super fine detail with lots to take in..well worthy of inclusion in any of the modelling magazines.

20221115_103936.jpg

The second is just part of the Playmobil layout...the backscene. The running lines will need more tables!

I got my dates wrong on the train strike but my trip still thwarted by the bridge strike that precludes travel on the Peterborough to Leicester line.

There should be another update this evening.
Apparently, the bus replacement service is running well.
Although it may be longer, but faster via London, either St Pancras to Leicester and change, or Euston to Nuneaton and change.....

The Playmobil layout has had further sections added, it really is super....It normally is fully setup in the owners loft..hence the odd rectangular holes for the roof supports

20221117_110943.jpg

The second group layout has now been assembled for the very first time....and it works.
Keeping up traditions, when I left just after 18:00..there was still wet paint on it!

20221117_144631.jpg

Another G layout arrives on a trailer.....this one is also normally permanently set up in a shed

20221117_150946.jpg

A picture of just 1 section!

20221117_151008.jpg

And finally the O gauge.....it seems to be a BR steam layout judging by the rolling stock...which is out of shot!
This layout is for sale! Probably 24 ft long, and 2 feet wide. Looks like it folds up into a smallish package

20221117_151146.jpg

Still one more G layout to appear tomorrow morning, as well as a few in the smaller scales.

I have heard on the grapevine that Pudsey may make an appearance on Friday around 1700, before he has his BBC television work at 19:00

There'll be no further pictures until after the show..so probably Sunday evening as I have something else on during Sunday morning

Good luck with the show Malcolm.

Mizzy and I are off to see a G scale layout in Suffolk before we head up to Norfolk, so we won't be there this weekend....

I spent an hour at home looking for that green spremberger last night! Realised at 9pm that it was in the boxes with my coaches! DOH

Our groups new mini modular layout worked well on its debut. A couple of snags to fix before next time. The tarpaulins are hiding ‘junk’ that has been left in the room.
