Hi Battery Boys

As my suggestion for a separate heading for Radio Control didn't gather enough votes for a majority ;) I am posting this little tip here.....

As I wanted two return loops on my layout and was persuaded to 'do the math' and switch to RC rather than expensive loop power switching kit, I needed some cheap Radio Control gear (@ the 'new' 2.4Ghz frequency) to experiment with. I found this supplier and have been sufficiently happy with the product to buy another.... before the exchange rate gets worse :banghead:

Currently £34.96 inc p&p and comes in under the import duty £17 (plus the minimum tax collection threshold)!

So for anyone looking to make the change for as little as possible I am posting this ebay link (Delivery wasn't the 3-4 weeks promised, it was closer to 8 days!!!)

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the link.
A few of us have similar ones - Turborix, Hobby King, etc...
They work very well.
What ESC are you going to use?

Other than the Esc key on my computer you mean!?

Sorry, I am not fully conversant with R/C terminology but I imagine you mean the interface between the receiver and motor / sound control..... I used to use servos in my earlier life. Anyway enough rambling.... I decided to go with G Scale Graphics Railboss - the 2.4Ghz Enhanced version and although some say it's a tad expensive (mostly the import tax, me thinks) I have found it very efficient. See my 'Film to go with Hello' thread for some idea of the slow speed &inertia control at the end. I probably overdid the whistle though!

Hope this answers your question

Regards
Rob

Rob,

Please ESCuse me for not expanding the TLA.

ESC - Electronic Speed Controller.
TLA - Three Letter Acronym.

A more affordable domestic ESC is the http://www.electronize.co.uk/online_ordering.htm < Link To FR8T-xx range from Electronize.
I haven't tried these yet, but the spec looks good.

That's very useful info, I'll take a look as I am in the process of converting a second loco (my General sort-of-lookalike)
Perhaps you would advise which item(s) would provide speed control plus toggling options for sound (most similar to Railboss Enhanced)
Sorry if this posting is a bit spasmodic, but it's a lovely day here and I'm in and out of the garden!!!
