Excellent news, Paul..

When movement restrictions are over, I will come and give you a hand.. No doubt there will be a fair amount of tidying-up, and possibly new-growth to deal with?

PhilP.
Thanks for the offer Phil, I’m sure there will be lots to do. I’m hoping the contractors will have finished the picnic area before we return. If they do, I could move my two sheds into their new positions and then concentrate on the new extension of the railway.

casey jones snr casey jones snr How far is the CFR from London? Before the virus took over, I was planning a trip out there for a few days. It'd be great to meet a few of you while I'm out there (If I can still go this year...)

John, the CFR is located at Rothley which is about 110 miles north of London. If you make it across the pond we would love to see you.

Just to the north of Leicester, and just off the M1 motorway....

But don't be fooled - 110 miles in the UK will take a lot longer to drive than 110 miles in the USA. Apart from traffic congestion, I was once advised by an american over here on business as to the real reason that he did not drive in the UK - our roads have bends :p:p:p

And we drive on the proper side of the road too!

If you doubt the above statement, check where the steering wheel is on the very first car made by Mr Benz....

The other option is to travel from London St.Pancras to Loughborough then a 10 minute walk to the Great Central Railway Station then a 30 or so minutes Steam Train ride to Rothley Station where you will see the CFR on the left as you run into the Station when facing direction of travel. Ok a long day out but very interesting Train rides all round. I used to do it from Hemel Hempstead when I lived there and I needed add another hour or more to the journey each way.

That's actually what I found, and probably what I'd do.

The work continues at the CFR. I managed to do a security check at Rothley Station and the CFR this afternoon and whilst there I took a few pictures of the work in progress:-

The entire picnic area has been removed.

Just on the way to shop, and stopped to combine with daily exercise, Officer. ;)
I was actually returning from the Pharmacy with my essential medication (2 carrier bags full). The CFR is but a short diversion from the route home and I considered the security check to be essential.

Quite right that man. Our pub of choice is a lock up and owned by a friend who lives in Fleetwood, 12 miles(ish) away, and seeing as we only live a mile away and the area is a bit dodgy we pop down to check it out. Being 30 yards back from the prom and convenient parking between pub and prom has nowt to do with this selfless act.............good afterble constanoon!!

It isn't actually wrong to drive to your daily exercise, obviously it's better not to, nor would there be any problems with Paul popping out to the CFR to do a security check, (or stretching a point, having a very vital testing session there), as long as he is on his own and being careful. The problems arise when folk leave the house because they're bored or don't care about what's happening around them which b*gg*rs every sensible persons approach. As always, we have to lower ourselves to the moronic few

Part of the expansion and renewal at the CFR is the intention to model three distinct areas of the British mainland. To this end the CFR will have three stations, an English (Rural) Station, a Welsh (Snowdonian) Station and a Scottish (Highland) Station. To this end I have been building a few ModelTown kits over the last year. The latest kits(courtesy of Dunnyrail) are the Station Masters house and Station waiting room:-

A few coats of varnish need to be applied. Detailed interiors will also need making, lighting both exterior and interior will be fitted.

Security checks ARE considered a legitimate reason to travel short distances. I am on the rota for the Kent & E. Sussex Rly. and we checked. About twice a week I drive 4 miles to my local station. Found some kids buggering about recently. Once they saw I was with my dogs they soon scarpered.
I only go about twice a week but somebody goes to each station twice a day - and we contract night security as well.
