They probably aren't connected to the slabs, the rods probably support the concrete against the embankment and the slabs are for decoration
OK so the slabs are just a veneer over a concrete retaining wall, that makes it clearer.

It's always hard to see something that's used up so much time and care being torn up by someone else. Even if it is only temporary and of benefit in the long run. Lots of happy memories from the CFR, including the old GSM open days.

If you're keeping a list, I'd also happily volunteer some time when you can get back in to help get things up and running again :)

Ed, the CFR will be back in operation by Easter. Hopefully the extension will be completed by May. We look forward to seeing you.
Do you, have a contact number so I can call ahead? And what is the exact address of the CFR? One other question, do you know a Ken Martin? He's my cousin and is active in live steam model trains. Just wondering. Thanks

Good afternoon folks, I’m back home from the CFR and feeling a lot happier than I was. The contractors have finished phase 1 of the reconstruction and remodelling of the CFR. They have now started on Phase 1, construction of new picnic area.
I now have to await the arrival of the new Operating Cabin. Once the new cabin arrives it will be fitted out and the contents of the old cabin will be transferred. The old cabin will the be removed to another area of the Station and will be get a new lease of life.
The Workshop shed will be moved into the place of the old cabin. Once this is done the contractors can then start phase 2 of the reconstruction of the CFR.
Sadly I didn’t have my camera with me today, but more pictures will follow.

Sean, I’m now at the CFR and I’m pleased to report that the Operations Cabin and patio are completed. We have to await the arrival of the custom built Operations Cabin. This should arrive and be erected by the 1st April. The patio needs to be fenced off and this will be done as part of phase 2:-

The most important task at the moment is getting the track reinstated.

Looks promising … are you going to lay your track idea down temporarily to see how it looks/works ?
Sean, the pictures in post #56 show the old ballast and larger stone. The whole area needs levelling ready for various types ballast and the track.
No doubt the track will be laid a few times to ensure good running.

Paul any thing to update ?
Sean, the contractors are busy on the picnic area revamp. I’m waiting for the delivery of the new operating cabin. I put out a request to the GCR members who run their trains on the CFR to assist with track relaying this weekend, so far only one has responded positively.
