What happens if you use two of these together - is this indeed possible or do they each have the same wavelength or whatever, so you can only use one at a time?

I'm thinking of using two with what used to be called "cab control" with a common return i.e. track sections fed through SPDT Centre Off switches allowing either (of two) controllers to work the section.

Hi C & S, I think you will find that the  Aristocraft Basic train engineer set up, is manufactured in 4 frequencies, as to which one you get it's a bit of a lucky dip! The frequency of the unit is shown on the base receiving  unit as something like 27.045 MHZ, so it's a case of looking to get two or three sets with different frequencies.
It doesn't hurt to mark the handsets with the frequency or a means to show what line it controls, a simple move that can save a lot of problems!
I know this only answers the first part of your question, but hope it helps!

Brian, many thanks for that news. I had a feeling that there might be different frequencies available but now I know what to look for I can try to get two different sets. My unit's main lable says 27MHz and there's a stick-on lable on the handset with D 27.195 on it, which I guess must be the actual setting.

I'm fairly confident about the second half of my original posting, as it's a method I've used before - though with fixed controllers. Here I'll just be substituting the base station for the H&M unit I used previously.

Here are the Aristo frequencies for the USA.
The 27 mhz units use the citizens band frequencies as follows:

So the 195 is really 27.195mhz. CB channel 8 in US and Canada.

TX BOX BLACK GRAY
ch 1 27.045 75.41
ch 2 27.065 75.45
ch 3 27.085 75.49
ch 4 27.105 75.53
ch 5 27.125 75.57
ch 6 27.145 75.61
ch 7 27.165 75.65
ch 8 27.195 75.69
ch 9 27.225 75.73
ch10 27.255 75.77
The TRACK # does not change the frequency.

Don't forget that using the basic (Orange) Train Engineer with later LGB locos (generally those with circuit boards within) carries a health warning as far as the loco is concerned.
