Arosaish Bahn

Stewie, the CFR was fitted with LGB fishplates for donkeys years( 15) without any problems. I only switched over to rail clamps as I altered, expanded or replaced sections of track.
I am sure that you will have no problems with your set up.

Sorry Alan I have no idea on Massoth clamps I have never used them. I have only used slide on rail joiners so the rail should expand ok..
With your curves - referring to the track of course, nothing personal :giggle: - expansion even in Antipodean temperatures shouldn't be a problem, unless the track is fixed very rigidly.

Clamps are good for electrical continuity ................... but I seem to remember you're going battery powered, in which case just leave the LGB sliding fishplates as they are :nod:

I think I should be ok with just peco slide on joiners and leaving a gap in the rails.
You probably will be okay because you are using fishplates.

My expansion problem was because of the Massoth track clamps.
The expansion was concentrated where the track was not ballasted.

Photographic evidence of the distortion across the bridge doesn't lie but the trains still ran fine -

Alan
Great looking railway Alan.

You may like to think that, but couldn't possibly comment!
Seriously I've left most of the straight parts of my track loose, to counter affect expansion. Try leaving a length unballasted or loosely ballasted in a discreet area
Indeed so, in full sun in UK thee days there could be as many problems as some hotter problems though possibly not as much as say in Madrid high summer.

Great looking railway Alan.
Thanks but it has only taken 30 odd years to get there :)
What you have created in a couple of years is seriously impressive.
As for rail clamps, as usual the thread has gone off in an irrelevant direction because you are battery power but we are all used to thread drift here. :D

I decided to a bit more ballasting, so this section can be finished

I also chipped the rock wall off the track base here, so that I can fit a Foam retaining wall instead.

A short video of todays train.
Good to see loco with Pans up, makes such a difference and allows one to almost believe that Catenary is present. You have come a long way in a fairly short time, just shows how dedicated working can get the job done.

Thanks, hopefully will not be too long and there will be catenary around a bit of it at least.

No work has been done in the last few weeks, but it was a nice afternoon to run a train.

Video pieced together of a lap around.
That looks great, everything is settling in well, a few more weeks and the weather will soon blend everything to together brilliantly.:clap::clap:

We finally got a few dry warm days, after what has been the coldest wettest end of spring we have had here in 17 years.
Perfect for ballasting which while slow to do, I found it quite enjoyable. Might of just been being out in the warm sunshine:).

I did a base layer of dust to cover the Besser blocks and get rid of the angular edges first.
IMG_20251121_141017067_HDR.jpg
I left a few straight edges for a few low retaining walls.

The join from permanent to temporary ballast.

Walking Doggo at the beach today I found a section of beach that had the sizeable drifts of small rocks 2-4mm brown rocks. I will liberate a few buckets worth and soak the salt out. I will then remove the cheap grey pea gravel along the trackside and replace it with the beach rock over time, I think it will look much nicer.

I left the rest of the siding as I will do that after I have finished the cement plant and surrounding area.

Finished product, should be dry in a few days. Whilst probably not too prototypical I think it looks much better than the bare Besser blocks.:)
This section was done watering the glue down 50/50, I tried a small test section weeks ago which seems just as solid as the slightly watered down mix I had used on the other sections.
Time will tell if I have saved money or wasted time and money if it needs doing again
Good to making progress again, as I can start on the catenary once the ballasting is finished.

Looks so much better with ballast. Likely you may not have the issues of glue loosing grip in your climate, here we have to suffer frost and rain sometimes in short order that can create mayhem with glue. But a slop over again in warmer weather soon sorts any loose bits out.

I'm surprised you don't let doggo help with the ballasting :wasntme::wasntme:
