Revolution DCC - Access to functions

I have been told there is new software available for the DCC revolution, version 1.12. Allegedly there is a change to optimise access to *0, *1 and *2 function, not sure exactly what the change is. Think the USB programmer is required for the upgrade. Anyone got one?

Hi Cliff and Jon D
Greg has told us that he has one..but I think that was only to say that he has one.

Anyway perhaps all of us who have bought into the Revolution DCC kit should club together and buy one of the usb updaters BUT it seems that it is listed in the DC Revolution equipment list so perhaps it is not for the DCC stuff?
Also where do you download the update from... the most recent update is listed as:

As I understand it, the communications between the Tx and Rx are using the standard Revo proprietary protocol, and the DCC handset is the same as the DC one.....?

If that is correct, then any updates for the DC handset would presumably also work for the DCC one - can anyone confirm or deny that assumption?

I think you will find tgat although the handsets are (pretty exactly ?) similar the boards could be quite different though with luck the same upgrade kit may work for both witg the relevant downloads?

From the site, the USB programmer is $85, same for all units.

no way Mac compatible, windows only, none of the Revo stuff has ever been Mac

The updating hardware (the usb stick that sends the update wirelessly) is the same.

The firmware is NOT the same and you will brick hardware with the wrong firmware.

When new firmware is available at the "new product" level, it is usually some time before the firmware file is available to mortals.

Also, they may not have completed the updating software in the DCC handheld.

The updated software for the Revo DCC is available for download on the Precision RC web site. It is easy to download and was available immediately the update was announced.

Yes, as I understand it the same USB programmer works with the DCC Revolution or the DC one.

I have received another email explaining the actual change, which I quote here:

Hi Cliff,

I will upload the v1.12 supplement manual soon.

Here's a short summary:
Press "#" key.
Press "0" (F0-F9), or "1" (F10-F19), or "2" (F20-F28) numeric key to select F group.
Press the same numeric or "#" key to exit.

I also note there is an update for the Rx as well as the Tx. I don't know what has changed in the Rx as the above change shouldn't affect the Rx, only the handheld.

I agree, Mike, us on this side of the pond should club together and buy a single USB programmer to share. It may make sense for me to purchase it as I have been offered a discount on one, but the discount only applies to me!

Given that it will be PC-based, Cliff, and I'm one of those heretical Mac users.... maybe I could arrange to pop over and see you sometime after it has arrived, to do the necessary updates and give you a contribution towards the cost of the programmer at the same time?

Sounds like a great plan Cliff.
Although I run Macs, I also use them to run Windows either via Bootcamp (Mac boots as a native Windows unit) or Parallels software (Windows appears in a.... window).
Bit it would be good to come over and see you go through the process (and of course pay you for the privilege!).
I have emailed JK at Revolution about the two handsets (DC and DCC) and their differences (and similarities) so hopefully will have a reply by end of play on Monday.

I'm pretty sure that there is no difference, other than the software, between the DC and DCC handsets. If you find out something different do let me know.

Well JK has replied to my email where I asked if the DC and DCC handsets were interchangeable..
His reply was simple and straightforward.... 'Nope'.
But I have found that some facilities of the handsets are interchangeable..but... mainly all of any 'similarities' are for the DCC handset working with the DC RX board.... not the other way around (DC handset with DCC RX board)..... interesting...

Their UK prices appear to be basically the US Dollar prices with the dollar sign knocked off and a Pound sign in its place..... not an uncommon system of pricing for US import stuff, whether it is much more expensive than buying direct depends on several random factors (a major one being whether it gets nobbled for VAT etc.....)

I was more thinking that as this is a 'new' system, they might be able to update 'early adopters' kit for a nominal charge?

Hah! They are already selling the system at a pretty hefty discount. I do not begrudge these guys... who else is bringing out a new system with such a sophisticated throttle these days?
