I have a Panasonic video camera. I tend to take still pictures or just videos of interest to me.

I would like to post a video but I don't know how to just load the part of my SD card that shows what I want to post?

Can a member give me guidance please?

Thanks,

SW

So your Card will have many files that are each picture and vid. The pics will likely be .jog extensions to a number. The vids will probably be .mov. If you double click on them once the card is in the slot of your pc they should fire up whatever movie app is on your PC. There may be an option here to load a movie to 'you tube' then once you have done that copy the link and paste it in your G Central post and once that is save you should see a picture if the movie.

This is basically the process that I do on my iPad but is very similar on a pc but do not ask me the actual screens on Windows as I ditched that years ago.

Not much different process on a Windows machine.
  1. Insert the SD card in the slot
  2. Open the SD card by using File Explorer (depends on which version of Windows you have as to where this is found)
  3. Double click on any of the movie files on the card to watch them
  4. Upload whichever you fancy to YouTube (assuming you have an account)

the subject line and the first post asks about editing a video, not uploading it. Ive used microsoft movie maker, was free for pc's
Sarah did in the content of the thread say she "would like to post a video" in my book that meant upload and yes also by inference perhaps edit (as covered in the thread title) as well.

Youtube used to have some nice video editing tools included, but the editor has now been discontinued. There are some freebie alternatives, though - The best free alternative to YouTube Video Editor 2018 | TechRadar

That explains why I was unable to use it when I tried a while back. The youtube private users vids were still present telling you how to do it. Oh the net never properly updated!

I have used my iMac and complained before how unusable it has become on the latest upgrade. Still need to investigate going back in time and using my older iMac which was great for the process.

Handy link Rik. Thank you. By Linux compatibility do they mean Andrioid too by virtue of its origins ? I wonder. Have to dig out the Tosh' camera and see if I can download direct from that also on the PC to one of those suggested apps. The Tosh' supplied Media Impressions software was a PITA to use so I never did much with it.

Not to belabor this but the Sarah's sentence is:

I would like to post a video but I don't know how to just load the part of my SD card that shows what I want to post?

So putting "locations" in the sentence:

I would like to post a video (point A) but I don't know how to just load the part of my SD card that shows what I want to post? (point B).

Yes, if you only read half of the sentence and stop at point A that fragment of her statement talks about posting a video (but does NOT ask how by the way, she merely states her intent)

If you read the complete sentence she says that her problem is how to load the part of what she wants to post (video).

It's ok if you do not read the complete sentence, but dunning me (pun intended :D) for your not reading it when it's pointed out is not cool...

I merely pointed out what was asked...

Yet again a common language divided by a big pond and some of the differences in understanding of the written word. Plus guess I am too used to understanding what ladies are saying between the lines. Good protection of sanity skill!

Just discovered that, although MS have discontinued Movie Maker, it is still possible to download it (and MS Photo Gallery) from the Archive.org website. Other websites purport to provide downloads for Movie Maker, but secretly bundle nasty little PUPs with the download. Archive.org is, however, trustworthy.

The website link is - Microsoft Windows Live Essentials 2012 : Microsoft Corporation : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Then click on the Windows Executable link on the right of the page.
