I think I'll just apend bits to the firebox and, maybe something for the bell and whistle to the roof.

Sounds fine to me,to make the bells on some of my bashes i used wooden dolls house flower pots modifed of course just a thought as your a wizard at turning,only trouble they don`t have much of a "DING"
but the original bell that has been cut of will probably come in handy?

Cab getting a tiny bit nearer - now has the maklings of a roof glued on. The 1.5mm ply was bent round a piece of drainage pipe (smaller radius than the cab roof) and held in place with tie-wraps for a couple of days.
Glued it in position last night with the aid of twelve miniclamps no less!

I've not been idle (not completely anyway). .....
The roof will stay as it is whilst the rest of the cab will be smoothed down whilst I think about the final colour.

This thread has been so inspiring that I bought three of these things over Christmas! Well, and the prices were really good. Those are my excuses at any rate. One saddle tank and two with tenders. I suppose one will have to be set aside for the grandchildren to go with a few wagons I also ordered (those prices were also hard to pass up). But, the other two...
You did right - I like bargains too! Hope you'll post some pictures when you get around to any future conversions.

A modest spray with some water would have helped with the curving process Mick. I tend to use a small mister from a chemist, comes in for all sorts of jobs.
I did give some thought as to using a small steam cleaner - but it might have softened the glue.
Fancy building a steam cleaner with water-soluble glue!

Well you might think I haven't been doing much - and you'd be right! I've messed about painting (and that hasn't gone right well), then there was a coat of varnish (and that didn't go as well as I wanted), so here's my progress so far....
Waiting for the glue to set so I can mount the bell. It's the plastic bell I cut off, mounting with a split pin. Once all is in place it will be glued in position. Didn't have any gold numerals so I painted the vinyls before removing from backing. Used a gold marker pen for the lines (that didn't go according to plan either - so had to cover up my mistakes with a black felt tip pen). There's a theme developing somewhere

Congratulations for the work, but if I may, I find the painting much too bright and the green of the cabin too "fancy"
The Porter loco that it is based on seems to have a very glossy paint finish to it. I used green to represent a colour (arsenic based green paint) which was common at that time - one can only guess from a monochrome photo! It looks bright maybe because I used the flash to take the pic.
I have seen photos of restored Porters and some are in a brighter livery than mine!
What would your guess be (looking at the catalogue picture above)?
