After procrastinating for about 3 years I have finally made a start on building my railway it will be a slow process fitted in around work for others. Here are some pics of the start I have a general plan but that's likely to change and adapt.
DSC_1301.JPG
This is the initial area but the plan is to extend over time into the front yard
DSC_1300.JPG
One corner has a rockery with the line through it and the rest will be on a raised bench.
DSC_1300 (2).JPG
The track on the supports is a test run to position the stumps I am building the track bed in the shed. I am working at our local Model railway exhibition this weekend so will post some more pictures next week when I get a couple of days to work on it

Good on you Alan B ! I thought the trees, surroundings looked a little bit like somewhere in Australia. I think it was those South Australian rail motors near your name that really set me thinking.

Nice to make a start, I can see from your use of natural rocks that this will be turning out to be a very scenic line.

Was out most of today doctors and model shop, picked up some plants for the railway and was allowed to plant some under the strict supervision of SWMBO end result does't look to bad, the Loco and coaches are all scratch built in 7/8ths scale still some work to do to complete them hope to do that over the Christmas break.DSC_1310 (3).JPG DSC_1311 (3).JPG

Further progress today the support frame for the first loop is done and running as I only use battery power and live steam so I wont be hooking power up to the track nearly everyone here uses battery power most people have given up on track power to much hassle.

I love the scratch built stock. I think I saw a bit of a wobble on the brake van at one point, not sure if it was a bit of uneven track or if you need to add a bit of weight to the vehicle. (That's a lot of bits, I'm in pieces over that).

Hi Alan
Great looking layout - you're going to have fun landscaping it - which I see you've now begun. That Hunslet looks great - is it entirely scratchbuilt or based on a kit? The soundcards sound spot-on as well. Just trying to figure out their origin - Phoenix?

Like the track layout Alan.
Before you know it those little conifers will be 5 feet tall (I've got a couple of dozen of them, had to prune them all down last weekend)

Thanks Rik the 'hunslet' is a scratch build based only on a O16.5 one I have, not strictly correct as it has inside frames not outside but the little girl I built it for (granddaughter) just Loves it and uses it whenever she comes down to see us. The sound card is 'Mylocosound ' small and easy to fit the manufacturer only lives 10 minutes down the road
